‘Concert in a Phonebox’ September 2015
A concert at Aldeburgh Festival captured in 360 to transform an old red phonebox.

Perhaps Contraption website April 2015

This site was build in WordPress and pulls in data from Songkick for concerts and Bandcamp for album sales, as well as embedding the band’s music videos and hosting images for press. It’s responsive and lightweight.

GoPro videos for Perhaps Contraption November 2014
10+ angles and 360 video which won a Video Edit Award from GoPro

Solomon’s Knot – Aldeburgh Music residency May 2014

During my first month as Digital Manager at Aldeburgh Music, I’ve learnt a lot about the organisation and its work. Part of my job is to bring the relatively internal activities to a wider audience, and this video is the start of doing just that.

London International Players at Cadogan Hall January 2014

As well as filming the London International Players’ full recital at Cadogan Hall, we also filmed a couple of shorter extracts during rehearsal. This meant the cameras could get much closer and we could patch any sections that the players wanted.

Class Careers website December 2013

I built this prototype for a new service, Class Careers, who aim to connect employers with the growing number of talented students who leave school bound straight for work rather than university. I took Photoshop designs from Taiyab and turned them into a WordPress site.

Petroc Trelawny interviews Ben Johnson November 2013

I manned a camera and edited this interview for Intermusica.

IAB Engage conference October 2013
I organised the filming of sessions and behind the scenes interviews for 6 of these events in major halls in London.

”Perambulations” interactive music video July 2013
Using YouTube’s annotation system to let the viewer choose their own point of view.

Plush Festival website April 2013

This small classical music festival hosts the highest quality of musicians every summer, in a village in Dorset. I have done a lot of filming there, and so it was a pleasure to build their new site, designed by Will Brady.

Soweto Kinch interview March 2013

I filmed and edited Soweto Kinch being interviewed by Sebastian Scotney of London Jazz. He talked about his new album ‘The Legend of Mike Smith’ (SKP003CD), his recent sell-out shows at Ronnie Scott’s, and upcoming shows Kings Place and Birmingham Rep.

Plushmusic – music video shopping site November 2012

Plushmusic hosts and sells the classical and jazz music films that we make and license at Videojuicer. After 5 years the original website was a little tired and becoming increasingly hard to update.

Serpentine Gallery – Memory Marathon October 2012

On the weekend of October 13th and 14th 2012 the Serpentine Gallery hosted the Memory Marathon, the seventh annual festival of ideas inspired by the annual Pavilion commission.

Perhaps Contraption’s magical summer of music September 2012

Over the summer, I played around with a GoPro camera, attaching it to various instruments and pieces of scenery, as well as using it handheld. It’s a versatile piece of kit, very portable and a good little get-out-jail card for larger productions too (the windscreen mount is perfect for clamping to the side of a piano for a great view of keyboard and pianist). At the end of the summer I had a mountain of footage from various Perhaps Contraption gigs, and sifted through it to put together a retrospective. This was also my first play with FCPX, which I actually found incredibly quick for putting promos like this together.

Ligeti – Poème Symphonique September 2012

Poème Symphonique is an unusual work by Ligeti, simply featuring 100 metronomes ticking until they wind down. It was performed at the Music at Plush festival with the metronomes in the place they appear in this film, but with audience members starting them off, and then watching, bewildered, as they wound down.

Sandy Burnett’s homepage August 2012

I rebuilt Sandy’s homepage according to designs sketched on paper by him. The site is built on WordPress and he was keen that all the elements would be editable by him, so I made each one dynamic.

Live streamed gigs from the 100 Club July 2012

Gustavo Dudamel at the Southbank Centre live stream June 2012

Thinking Digital conference May 2012

Thinking Digital Conference is the UK’s answer to TED, with exceptional speakers year after year, chosen by Herb Kim. I was responsible for running the live stream from the 2012 conference, and then taking clips and creating a microsite for them.

Live streaming can be a viable option for orchestras February 2012

Digital streaming can be a viable option for orchestras – a blog post by me on the Guardian. music video website February 2012

Veri TV wanted a site that would play music video after music video. I set up a WordPress install and created a child theme to significantly modify the excellent Autofocus theme, and matched designs from Veri. I created instructions for them to easily add content using Videojuicer tools, and publish them using the WordPress install.

Cousin / Grandma music video February 2012

This weekend, Perhaps Contraption released “Cousin / Grandma”, a quite bonkers track mentioning members of one’s family. At one point it features 6 of me multitracked in a section slightly reminiscent of the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. Have a listen and see what you think.

Pacha Ibiza – closing party week coverage September 2011

For the final week of Pacha’s summer season, we covered the closing parties. This meant getting interviews with DJs including David Guetta, Erick Morillo and Swedish House Mafia, and producing promo videos for each night. They were published as part of a week-long Facebook campaign, where fans would post their questions to the DJs during the day, and they’d be answered each night and published straight away. Using a custom built Facebook app we trialled live streaming Q&A but connection speed and the fact that the interviews were generally after 2am prevented much success with this.

Chamber music films at Plush: Ravel & Bruckner September 2011

This was filmed in Plush at their festival in September 2011. With some stellar musicians (Thomas Gould, Adrian Brendel and Tim Horton) and an incredible piece of music filming and editing it was a joy.

Corinthian Chamber Orchestra at the Queen Elizabeth Hall June 2011

Here I am, having just finished a concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in the South Bank Centre. The CCO are a fine bunch of amateur players and what a wonderful venue to perform Elgar and Rachmaninov in!

The string quartet play Beethoven, Janáček and Schumann at Plush Festival

The Leopold String Trio at Wigmore Hall October 2010

The Leopold String Trio played all of Beethoven’s trios in a weekend at the Wigmore Hall in September 2009. We filmed both the concerts and I edited them for release on Plushmusic and DVD. There was no audio editing and you can see why this trio is up there with the best with their nearly flawless performances.

Julian Steckel performs Kodaly Cello Sonata March 2010

We filmed Julian Steckel at The Old Granary Studio in 2008. It was a peaceful setting for a tumultuous piece of Kodaly. I booked all the crew and published the video when it was ready. I also prepared edit notes on the score based on Julian’s wishes.

Huun Huur Tu at Fantasy Studios January 2010
Editing of a live concert by the throat singing group Huun Huur Tu from Tuva. 80 minute performance with more than 3 million views on Youtube.
